The halogen bulb, you should wipe it with isopropil 'Rubbing%26quot; alchohol anyway, somebody else might have touched it before you bought it

When in place, it shouldn't be able to rotate or move - if it does, repeat the positioning until you find the exact position.
Fit the wire piece, test if it works and replace the dust cover, if any.

At this point I have one headlight dead and the new bulbs are on the dashboard waiting for a cop to stop me and see if he can figure it out :-)

Open hood. Look at back of headlamp for 2 clips that pull up (the clips don't come completely out). With the clips pulled up, pull out the lamp assembly from the car as far as the wires will reach.
Twist the lightbulb socket until it releases from the headlamp unit.
Now you can pull out the bad bulb from the socket and replace.
Avoid touching the glass part of the new bulb with your fingers. Use a cloth or clean gloves. You don't want to leave any oil on it from your hands.

screw that easy way i do it at nissan is to remove bumper, way easier, and you dont mess up bulb or hand trying to reach in small places, to remove just take all the snap clips of top of bumper i think there is 6 then remove the screw in splash shield and peel back fender liner reach up inside there is two 10 mm bolts on each corner of headlight remove those on each light, then pull bumper out and down and let hang, then there is 4 10 mm securing headlight, remove then pull out headlight and change bulb, its not hard like it sounds but im an exp nissan tech and i have the lift to work on with out scrpaing up bumper, so you might want to take to nissan, its not hard at all , the other way the guy before me said is another way i just hate doing it that way and do it my way, there is a recall on the headlights just to let you know, they burn out from a bad ground if you take it to nissan they will do recall and install two new bulbs included for free, you should call with your vin to c if your car has had that done yet,

I'll try and explain it, but if you still can't do it, go to www.altimas.net and search in the forum. It's not easy, on the passenger side bulb, remove your coolant reservoir. I believe it's 3 bolts. On the drivers side, I believe it's easier if you remove the top of your air box. (I have a cold air intake, so my whole air box assembly is gone) Once you have access to the white plastic cover, turn counterclockwise to remove the covers. Then the bulb is held in by a metal clip. If you look at it closely, you must push the clip towards the front of the car, then to the side, and the clip will release and you can then change the bulb. Then re-assemble...

grooves in the plastic base with the tabs in the lamp assembly.

There is supposed to be some way that that black air intake scoop can be removed in order to get to the back of the bulb. If I recall correctly, I think it comes loose if you pull up on it. But it has to be removed to change the bulb.

won't matter what you got for cylinders or 4wd. All you gotta do is pop the hood and inspect the back of the headlight. The bulb will pop out and you can just take it to a parts place and tell you need one. If you have an Actually headlight it works the same way, only you unplug the headlight, then take the bolts holding it in and it works the same way. Easy as pie, my kid sister could do it. If you ask real nice at a parts store they might show you, or even do it for you.

The bulb should be reacheable from behind the headlamp. First disconnect the wire harness. Remove the rubber insulator. Reach in and unlock the wire latch holding the bulb. Then remove the old bulb and replace it with the new one.
Follow these steps backwards to complete the job.

There are 2 long bolts that are at the top of the headlamp assembly. Take them out and the headlight assembly will come out. Then twist the thing where the light is and it will come out. You also will have to twist the blinker light so you can take the assembly all the way off. It's pretty easy I have a Dodge stratus and have changed the lights myself a couple times.

If you have xenon headlamps you should be careful when changing the bulb. Make sure you purchase the correct application (D2S) and DONT TOUCH THE BULB when replacing it. If it's a standard halogen bulb then you still have to get the correct application the still do not touch the bulb end. Your fingerprints will cause it to burn in hot spots which will eventually lead to another burn out. Hopefully it's just a halogen because HID Xenon bulbs from factory are REALLy $$$$$$$$. I just replaced one of mine for $175, but you should never have to replace an HID bulb. It usually means there's something else wrong other than the bulb itself. To replace either or you have to remove the plastic caps on the reverse side of the headlight inside the engine compartment and twist out the bulb.
Now for the indicator bulb there should be a hole with a screw down inside it on top of the housing where your hood sits. Stick a screw driver down there and unscrew it. It doesn't come out all the way!!! So don't force it. THen pull the whole housing out and turn the bulb connector a little to release the housing. ******When you slide the housing back into place make sure you don't tighten the screw down too much, you could crack the plactic Y looking piece that hold the whole housing in. You need to remove the trim covering the inner wing, this is done by removing the retaining clip at the front and the pas fluid resovoir cap.
The black trim then lifts off.
There is not much room to get to the back of the headlight, but it is possible.

There is a clip holding the bulb in place, which you remove by pushing the clip to one side.

I think that there are three offset tabs that have to be engaged into the surrounding ring to secure the bulb on that model. if you don't have the ring properly oriented it won't lock the tabs in to turn the lock collor back in place.
if you didn't remove a ring to take the bulb out then the style you have is a spring loaded clip on the bottom or top of the bulb that has to be locked under the tab on the new bulb to keep it in place.
i think you have the retaining ring type and you'll need to look on the back of the ring to see where the slots for the tabs are that mate the ring to the housing.

Another way to tell if it is a sealed beam or not is to look on the front lens. If it says 1A1 or 2A1 in the glass, it is a sealed beam and the whole light needs to be replaced. Be careful when replacing a sealed beam lamp because the phillips screws are for aiming the headlight, and the Torx screws are for holding the headlight in.

It isnt that hard chainging light bulbs, ITs pretty simple also, it'd be alot easier if i knew your car model but im going out on a limb here, Im guessing its recessed head light model. Open the hood now either you will encounter screws or little bolts, most likely screws, take the screws off take off the old bulb and put the new in and just work backwards. pretty simple! make sure you try them before you drive at night.

The bulb is released by twisting it clockwise (looking at it from the back of the light unit).
Once released the bulb will need to be pulled quite firmly to release it.
The new bulb the needs to be plugged into the holder, with out touching the glass on the bulb.
Once it is plugged back in to the bulb holder, it is fitted back into the headlight by iserting it back in to position and twisting the bulb holder anti-clockwise.
They can be a bit tricky on these clio, especially if it has air con. You may find that you will keep scratching yourself on a black clip that holds a pipe in position on the inner wing.
This clip can carefully be removed if you need too.
Renault specify removal of the front bumper to replace the headlight bulb on this model of the clio, but it is possible to do without removing it.

for a 1999-2003, if i remember correctly (the first two steps might be reversed),
disconnect the wires by pulling the white rectangular connector, take out the round black rubber cover, pop out the spring by pressing one side in (i think it's the left side) and downwards, replace the bulb, put everything back together. no tools needed, except maybe plastic gloves if you don't want grease from your fingers on your bulb. look at the manual if you have it because it has pictures. same steps for passenger side bulb.

White light comes in different colors that are determined by their heat.
Yellow white isn't as hot or bright as white/bluish light
keep the yellow as a safety spare and go back and buy a high intensity bright light they are usually always the blue bright white.
Wiggle the connection and see if it gets brighter. If not check the ground wire from the socket to where it is fastened to the body.

White light comes in different colors that are determined by their heat.
Yellow white isn't as hot or bright as white/bluish light
keep the yellow as a safety spare and go back and buy a high intensity bright light they are usually always the blue bright white.
Wiggle the connection and see if it gets brighter. If not check the ground wire from the socket to where it is fastened to the body.

You do not have to remove the headlight assembly in order to replace the headlights on your car. Now the turn signals are in the fenders and so that's a different story.
To replace th eheadlights in a '96-'00 Honda Civic:
- Open the hood of the car.
- Pinch either side of the square black plug on the back of the headlight housing. They do somethign stick, and so if they do just press in one side and lean it in the opposite direction then after that pinch in the other side. That usually works for me
- Remove the black rubber boot from the back of the housing by pulling it off.
- There is a metal clip on the headlight housing behind that rubber boot. Press it n and unclip it (you'll see when you get there).
- Now the bulb is free. Remove the bulb.
- When you replace the old with the new bulb DO NOT touch the glass on the bulb! This will leave oils from your skin on the bulb and will cause it to possibly burn out faster (it heats up the outside of the bulb more).
- Do everything in reverse to replace the bulb. :)
It's pretty easy and you should probbaly pick it up after once. Your owner's manual shoudl also have illustrations in it to explain the removal and install. Good luck.

If you rotate that CCW the socket should pull out with the bulb in it. Remember don't touch the new bulb with bare hands, if you do, clean it with rubbing alcohol. The oil from your skin will make a new bulb burn out pronto. Bring the old bulb to the auto parts store they will match it up. Good luck

You may have to move the power steering out of the way to get to the bulb if the headlight is on the drivers side. Just pop the power steering canister out of place (it will stay connected) and reach for the bulb.
there is a retaining ring that holds the buld into the headlight assembly. to replace the bulb, first disconnect the connector from the old bulb. There is a tab on the top of the connector that pushes backward (toward the engine) and with the tab released and held back you can push the connector downward to remove it. On many of the older cars you need to use a flat blade screwdriver to push the sides of the connector downward because the connectors are stuck on from years of dirt and grime buildup.
with the connector removed you can reach the retaining ring that holds the bulb in. the retainer ring is a circular ring that locks the bulb in place. to release the bulb you turn the retaining ring counter-clockwise (when looking at the ring from the engine). The ring should turn between 1/8 and 1/4 turn before the bulb will pull out. The bulb comes out straight rearward.
you replace the bulb by reversing the above steps. As a caution, don't handle the bulb by the glass; only touch the plastic housing or you'll cause the new bulb to fail prematurely.
you may have to remove the power steering reservoir or the air inlet tube on some models (the thing that looks like a periscope on the right side--it just pulls straight up and out) to get to the bulb if you have big hands, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

On my 05 F-150, I am having difficulties in accessing the three screws which hold the front headlight cover in place. The owners manual says to peel back the protective cover yet I can't get the cover to move. Since I can't acces the screws, how can I remove the them?

I have been wondering whether or not to change the headlight bulbs in my 1998 Toyota Corolla because they seem to be extremely dim for my taste. I seem to have found what I think to be a good pair, but I'm not sure if they will be any brighter. The bulbs that I found are Hella H83140272, they are 60/55W. Although I'm having trouble getting through at the moment (probably temporary or on my end, not the only site), you can usually download or open in your browser then save, a copy of your Owner's Manual (in PDF form) from this site;

You do have to have a Yahoo! account, (which I assume shouldn't be a problem LOL), and you need to register. The bulb replacement section starts on page 5-47. Better than me pasting the text, because it includes pictures too, which are not linkable.
Your bulb type (as listed on page 5-53) is 9007 LL, but any bulb with the 9007 prefix will fit. Autozone for example, lists 5 distinctly different bulbs that will all fit your car, at various prices (from $11 for standard to $35, each, or cheaper in pairs). Best thing to do would be to get the same type as your good one on the other side, or better yet, get a matched pair of whatever type you prefer.
If you're not familiar with Halogen capsule bulbs, I should warn you that the glass part should not be touched with the bare hand, as the oil from your fingers can make them crack/shatter when they are turned on, from the heat.
Also, read the warnings on the package and in the Owner's Manual about handling them. They have pressurized gas inside and can burst if handled improperly, so some safety glasses are a good idea.

I've checked with the manual and to change the headlight bulb, you have to remove the front bumper in order to get access.
Stupid design and a tricky job for the inexperienced.. there are clips to unclip and then like 15 torx screws to remove from different areas.
I reckon someone with experience could do it in 10 minutes.. but I can't do it... already had a try at it.

I called the AA out because my headlights weren't working - it was night and I couldn't drive the car safely without them - It turned out the switch had failed but they managed to sort out a work around until I could get a new one fitted. I would say you situation is similar - you can't legally drive the car at night as it is and you are unable to fix it so why shouldn't you ask them to help, so long as you have appropriate cover eg Home Start if the car is at home.
The mechanic will probably be quite happy to get something they can fix.......

Remove wheel and take screws out under the bumper cover on the side your working on, unclip plastic push in retainers pull back plastic inner fender and now you can see the back side of the headlight . gray round plastic cover mark the closed posistion and turn counter clockwise mark the cover again this step makes it much easier to know where the lid gos and if you have it properly closed and water tight. Only the low beam bulb is serviceable this way. It is best to replace two lamps at a time low beams on both sides Murano is difficult you have to remove the complete bumper cover and headlight assembly if there are other bulbs that have burnt out. Take the screw out of the shield above the 3 rivets along the inside of the fender edge, Pull the shield back starting at the top where it's tucked under the back portion of the liner shield. Unscrew the top plastic cover, twist the connector counter clockwise and pull it off the bulb. Then unclip the bulb and pull the bulb out noting the groove position for reinstalling the new bulb in the housing.
There is nothing simple about your bulb change. The dealer price of the bulb is around $245.00.
Don't break the new bulb trying to guess when it's seated properly!
Go to the dealer, ask about the service. Make friends with a technician that will do it on the side, or get a referral for an infiniti tech from another owner. It will save you 50% or more of the dealer cost and you don't run the risk of doing it wrong.

The H1 lamp is very small, and has only one filament. The base is a very small circle.
The H7 lamp also has one filament, the circular base is a little larger, and it has a brighter light. You can even buy and H7 with a bluish glow, 4000 candle power.
Buy the H4 lamp for any Peugeot 106 model...good luck.

On the back of the headlight, turn the base of the light bulb holder and then pull it out. The wires on them should be removable on the base of the bulbs. To remove the bulb from the base turn the bulb and it should be easy to oull out then replace the bulb using the same process. Make sure you wipe the light bulb face so that you leave no finger prints on them, some bulb will burn out with prints on them. Hope this helps.

It's not too complicated to change a headlamp. It's just kinda hard. I know it sounds like it's same thing, but this is why. Usually the bulb is held into place by a mount with a ring that turns to lock it in. It's just a big FREAKIN' PAIN to try and turn that plastic ring, with trying to fit your hands and fingers into the small space. If it's the driver side headlamp, sometimes you've got to take out battery so you've got room to work. It's not complicated, just a hassle.
Once you've got the ring turned, you'll see how it unlocks it. It doesn't unscrew like a pop bottle cap. Then you pull out the bulb. Think you can also remove the wiring from the part first before trying to move the locking ring which helps to not damage the wires. Once out, you merely replace the bulb like changing batteries, and then reassemble the whole thing again. It's much easier to pay the $20 to let someone else do it.
IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!! If you do it yourself, you really really REALLY have to make sure that the new bulb has all your fingerprints off it. In fact, don't ever touch the bulb itself. This is why.
Bulbs are halogen which burn extremely hot, that's why they throw a brighter light down the road. But they are sooooo hot, that they can burn extremely easily. Your fingers have grease on them, part of your body's stuff. Not talking about engine or motor grease, this is a natural oil on your fingers and hands. If this gets onto the bulb, the oils from your hands will actually begin to cook, or fry, just like french fries in cookng grease, and that will cause the bulb to burn out or even maybe explode. So be careful, or you'll be replacing the bulb very soon again.
If you really don't know the proper way to remove it and install the new light have it done by your local Toyota Dealer.

I am trying to help a friend of mine change his headlight bulb (just the bulb, not the whole assembly). He has a 1997 Olds Cutlass, and we're not sure how to gain access to the bulb. The headlight assembly has metal plates behind it, so we don't have direct access to the bulb. I've never come across a vehicle that doesn't offere easy direct access to the bulb. I'm thinking we're going to have to pull the whole headlight assembly forward in order to get to the bulb, but we're not exactly sure how.
Come to think of it, this also brings up the question: How many automotive novices does it take to change a headlight bulb?
